— Lomandra longifolia ‘Katrinus Deluxe’  PP19,262 —

Cold hardy, drought tolerant, shade tolerant, heat tolerant, salt tolerant, disease tolerant…this one ticks all the boxes.  The pine-green fine foliage and weeping habit gives you the look and feel or an ornamental grass all year long.  Don’t cut this one back in winter because it won’t need it; evergreen even when temperatures drop into the teens.  This is a great low maintenance choice for any application where ornamental grass is desired.  Matures to roughly 2 ½ feet tall and a 2 ½ feet wide, and perhaps slightly larger under optimal conditions.  At its healthiest when given only minimal irrigation.  USDA Zone 7b -11(evergreen 8a and, in some places, 7b in normal winters).

  • Compact Habit with “Pine Green” Foliage; Medium Texture
  • Best Cold Tolerance of any of our Lomandra!
  • Improved Disease Resistance
Life Cycle: Perennial
Hardiness Zones: 7b to 11; consistently evergreen in Zone 8… our most cold hardy selection!
H x W (approx): Approx. 3ft by 3ft when mature.  Katrinus Deluxe and Lomandra Breeze are actually about the same size when fully mature.  The only difference is that Katrinus Deluxe is much faster to establish and mature.
Spacing: 3 to 3.5ft for best LONG TERM results
Bloom Time: Late spring; flowering may be sparse in the first year but will improve!
Flower Color: Small, tightly clustered cream-yellow flowers on inflorescence that sit at or just above the foliage.  Flower spikes may take a while to senesce.
Foliage Color: “Pine” green in full sun; deep green in shade
Habit: Tufting (i.e. doesn’t “spread) with arched foliage
Containers?: Possibly large commercial planters but best suited for the landscape
Light Requirement: Sun to Heavy Shade
Water Requirement: Low to Moderate Water Needs
Maintenance Category: Low Maintenance
Uses: Mass Planting, Commercial & Home Gardens
Maintenance Notes:Should not require pruning for many years in Zones 8 and warmer.  More tolerant of moisture & humidity compared to Breeze but still take care not to over irrigate in the southeast!
